The rock 'n' roll star died in a plane crash along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper at the tender age of 22 but is still one of the most influential musicians of all time and had a major impact on the sounds of the 1950s.

Anyone who is keen to get down on the dance floor to some of his greatest hits while they are staying in accommodation in Auckland should head on down to watch Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story at the Playhouse Theatre next month.

It will chart the course of his thrilling career, during which he enjoyed huge success after becoming a household name, before his tragic death in the crash just 18 months later.

Some of his biggest hits, including That'll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Heartbeat and True Love Ways are all likely to feature.

The show will run between July 10th and 24th 2010, excluding Monday nights, with special matinee performances planned for July 17th and on the closing day.

Tickets are priced at just NZ$28 (GBP13) for adults NZ$16 for children and NZ$25 apiece for students and senior citizens.
