Munich's Theatron Music Summer offers a 25-day programme of free concerts, film screenings and firework displays.

MUNICH, GERMANY, June 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A 25-day celebration of the thriving live music scene in Munich is set to bring hundreds of thousands of people to the city's Olympic Park in July and August.

Theatron Music Summer holds the world record for the longest continuous open-air festival and is a major highlight of the cultural calendar in the Bavarian capital.

For people staying in Munich hotels, the event offers the chance to explore the Olympic Park site while listening to an eclectic range of local acts and international performers.

Admission is completely free and the music on offer ranges from classical and jazz to rock, pop, hip-hop, reggae and soul.

The programme is made up of 63 concerts and includes the Bavarian acoustic pop of Mouths, progressive jazz from the Max von Mosch sextet and Phil Vetter's classic songwriting.

Other acts include German rockers RO-761 KC, singer-songwriter Wallis Bird and punk band Kafka.

According to organisers Antonio Seidemann and Judith Becker, all the acts taking part in the event do so not for money but "out of joy".

As well as the music, Theatron showcases short films from award-winning young directors each Saturday during the festival.

People with a love of pyrotechnics may like to plan their visit for August 5th or 12th, as two spectacular fireworks displays are scheduled to take place at the site on those days.

Up to 110,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the festival, with a daily average of approximately 4,000.

Munich's Olympic Park was created for the 1972 Games and continues to be a centre for major cultural and social events in the city.

"The Theatron Music Summer is likely to be popular," said Jess Reading, head of marketing at LateRooms. "LateRooms strongly recommends people considering attending to book hotels Munchen as soon as possible."
