LateRooms.com - Enjoy Longborough Opera During a Cotswolds Stay
The Longborough Festival Opera is preparing to debut its new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni in the Cotswolds next month.
COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, May 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Classical music lovers using Cotswolds hotels this summer may like to attend a forthcoming performance from the Longborough Festival Opera.
The company, known for hosting high-quality opera productions in the tiny Gloucestershire village from which it takes its name, will launch its 2010 season with a new version of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni in June.
Conducted by Gianluca Marciano and directed by Jenny Miller, the performances should help to introduce a new audience to the composer's great tragic-comic work.
The artistic team behind the latest Longborough production previously worked on a highly successful version of The Marriage of Figaro, another Mozart opera.
In a review of that event for Opera Magazine, Christopher Morley described the cast as "a constant delight", adding that Marciano "conducted his crisp orchestra with loving and dramatic alertness".
First performed in 1787, Don Giovanni features a libretto written by Lorenzo da Ponte, who also collaborated with Mozart on The Marriage of Figaro.
Don Giovanni is due to play at the Opera House in Longborough on June 17th, 19th, 22nd, 25th and 26th, with each show getting underway at 18:30 local time.
It will be performed in Italian with English subtitles. Tickets are priced between GBP40 and GBP110 and can be booked online.
After Don Giovanni, the Longborough Festival Opera season will continue with performances of Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Die Walkure by Richard Wagner in July.
