SHANGHAI, CHINA, May 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People who are interested in Japanese culture, particularly the country's music scene, may be interested to learn that one of its highly popular boy bands will be playing a gig in Shanghai.

On June 13th, SMAP - or Sports Music Assemble People - will be taking to the stage at the Shanghai Expo.

It will be the first time that the group, who have been performing since 1991, has played a gig outside of Japan.

Anyone who is intrigued by the pop stars may want to book accommodation in Shanghai to allow them to see the five boys in action.

SMAP have released more than 40 singles and 20 albums in Japan, as well as making numerous TV appearances and presenting their own variety shows.

Masahiro Nakai, Takuya Kimura, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Goro Inagaki and Shingo Katori make up the group, who told Shanghai Daily that playing at the World Expo will be a "memorable" experience.

Tickets for the concert, which will be held at Expo Cultural and Performing Arts Centre, are free and can be reserved by contacting the venue on the day of the show.

All the entertainment will begin at 13:00 (local time), with the arena expected to be full to its 18,000 capacity, due to the large number of Chinese fans of SMAP.
