Marilyn S. Marr excels in playing and teaching classical piano

San Jose, CA, July 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marilyn S. Marr, a Master Teacher, classical and church musician, and Music Director of Marr Piano Studios, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in music performance and instruction.

Marilyn S. Marr embarked on her musical career at four years of age when her grandmother began teaching her to play the piano. Now, more than four-and-a-half decades later, her love and passion for music remain as strong as ever. Currently, she not only manages her piano studio where she teaches advanced classical music, theory, improvisation, and practice and performance techniques, she also serves as Director of Music at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, where she directs a choir, band, and bell choir. Throughout her career, she has performed and taught at many facilities, served as an accompanist for English actress and singer Marion Grimaldi, and organized and hosted two Bay Area piano competitions at San Jose State University.

Marilyn studied privately for 25 years with vocal music teacher, coach and director, Shirley Kout from 1997 to 1999, Russian pianist Marina Grin from 1992 to 1994, classical artist John Delevoryas from 1984 to 1992, recording and concert artist John Kraus from 1980 to 1984 and other classical teachers from 1948 to 1962. She also completed advanced organ studies with Marion Ritchie in 1978 and creative improvisation studies with Martin Mann in 1978. She attributes her success to her faith in God, hard work and passion for music.

Marilyn received Certification in Piano, Organ and Voice through the Music Teachers' Association of California and holds Certification in Piano through the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She is a member of the Music Teachers' Association of California, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and the American Guild of Organists. She plans to continue growing and learning to providing top notch instruction.
